Privacy Policy

1. Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to Fishing Weather, including its iOS and Android applications, related APIs, and the pages on fishingweather.app (together, the “Service”). In this policy, “Fishing Weather,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Fishing Weather Service.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here. Some features are optional and only process additional information when you choose to use them.

2. Information we process

Location and search information

If you grant location permission or choose a place, we process latitude, longitude, place names, saved locations, and location search queries to provide local weather, tide, marine, fishing-condition, and geocoding results. Precise device location is requested only when you use a feature that needs it and grant permission. Saved and recently selected locations may also be stored on your device.

Account and authentication information

When you sign in with Apple or Google, we may receive a provider identifier, email address, display name, profile image URL, and email-verification status, depending on your provider settings. We create an internal account identifier and process access and refresh tokens to keep you signed in. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.

Catch records and user content

If you create a catch record, we process the fish species or custom species name, weight, length, date and time, optional location name and coordinates, notes, and any photo you choose to upload. Catch records and photos are private to the authenticated account through the Service; they are not intended to be publicly published by default.

Usage, device, and diagnostics information

In production builds, we may use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Remote Config. This can process app launches, screen views, login method and success or failure, logout events, internal user identifier after sign-in, app and device information, crash reports, stack traces, performance or diagnostic details, and remote-configuration requests. We do not intentionally place catch notes, uploaded photos, or precise catch coordinates in analytics events.

Network and website information

Our infrastructure and hosting providers may process IP address, request time, requested URL, user agent, security signals, and similar network logs to deliver the Service, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors. These legal pages do not include advertising trackers or our own analytics cookies.

3. How we use information

• Provide weather, tide, marine, geocoding, fishing-index, fish-species, and saved-location features.
• Create and secure accounts, authenticate sessions, and provide catch records and photo storage.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, measure, secure, and improve the Service.
• Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.
• Comply with legal obligations and protect users, our rights, and the integrity of the Service.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw permission-based consent through your device settings, although affected features may stop working.

4. Service providers and disclosures

We disclose information only as needed to operate the Service, follow your instructions, protect the Service, or meet legal requirements. Relevant recipients may include:

• Cloudflare for application delivery, APIs, security, database, cache, and object storage.
• Apple and Google for sign-in, app distribution, and platform services.
• Google Firebase for analytics, crash diagnostics, and remote configuration when collection is enabled.
• Weather, geocoding, marine, and tide providers, which may include Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap/Nominatim, BigDataCloud, NOAA, and WorldTides, depending on the requested feature and availability. Coordinates and related request parameters may be sent to these providers to return the requested result.
• Professional advisers, authorities, or transaction counterparties when reasonably necessary for legal compliance, safety, fraud prevention, or a business reorganization.

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for third-party cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Retention and deletion

Account profile, catch records, and uploaded catch photos are generally kept while your account remains active or until you delete the relevant content or account. Authentication refresh sessions normally expire after 90 days unless rotated or revoked; shorter-lived access tokens normally expire after 24 hours.

You can delete individual catch records in the app. You can also use the in-app Delete Account action. Account deletion removes the account, active authentication sessions, catch records, and stored catch photos from the active Service. Limited records may remain temporarily in security logs, diagnostic systems, or backups, or longer when retention is required for fraud prevention, legal claims, accounting, or compliance. Local preferences and caches on your device may remain until you clear app data or uninstall the app.

6. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent or lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.

• Manage location and photo access in your device settings.
• Manage analytics and diagnostics through available device, platform, or app controls.
• Delete catches or your account in the app.
• Contact us to request assistance with privacy rights.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.

7. Security and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including authenticated access, restricted private-photo delivery, token hashing for server-side refresh sessions, transport encryption, and access controls. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Fishing Weather and its providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we use legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.

8. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without the authorization required by law. If you believe a child has provided information improperly, contact us so we can review and delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, features, providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. When required, we will provide additional notice or request consent.
